Ok, first thing is first: this is gross. But it works!
Oil pulling is a natural organic way to brighten your smile and whiten your teeth. It also has other benefits such as preventing tooth decay, gingivitis, bad breath and cavities! (good news for my sweet tooth 😋)
I wanted to try oil pulling for different reasons; I don’t have the budget to drop dough at the dentist office, and I don’t want to weaken my enamel or turn my teeth sensitive by using some sort of whitening strips.
There is a process to oil pulling and I find it the more you do it, the easier it gets. Like I said earlier, it is pretty gross and uncomfortable at first. But, if you’re determined to have a beautiful smile at an affordable price then stick to it and you won’t be disappointed!
Here are the steps I take to oil pulling:
You can use either sesame oil or coconut oil, but I prefer coconut oil!
-Do this first thing in the morning! As soon as you wake up, before you brush your teeth or wash your face!
-The recommended dosage is ONE TABLESPOON; I use ONE TEASPOON and that is more than enough for me. I believe you should use what you feel is right for you. I’m pretty satisfied with the result of just one teaspoon.
-Swish it around for 10-20 minutes, and go distract yourself! Make coffee, breakfast, pick out an #OOTD! Whatever you do, DO NOT SWALLOW IT! The oil is literally PULLING out bacteria from your mouth, so do not swallow it! Unless you want your daily dose of bacteria.
-Spit it in the garbage! Don’t clog your sink!
-Rinse with sea salt water to be extra extra clean!
-Go brush yo teeth!
Notice all of the awesome benefits! I didn’t notice my teeth getting whiter at first, but I did notice fresher breath, less of a dry mouth, and just a super clean feeling! The first thing others notice about us is our smile and teeth, so spending a few extra minutes in the morning to benefit our oral health is definitely a go for me!
